Hello everyone!

Ever wanted to buy a beer while waiting for your flight at YKF? Well, now you can! The Aviator Café in our departure lounge now has a licensed sit down area. We are very excited that the airport has this service available and we hope that the next time you stop in, you’ll be sure to check it out.

You may also have heard that Bearskin Airlines has doubled their Saturday service to Ottawa. Passengers can now choose from a 10:15am or 2:45pm departure time. We are pleased the service to Ottawa is doing well and that another flight will be offered to better accommodate you and your travel needs.  Bearskin Airlines continues to see an amazing response from their customers here in the Waterloo Region and are thrilled with their load factors.

Last year the airport served 105,500 passengers and 100,000 aircraft movements. This represents a significant increase year over year. January and February 2011 are already showing about a 15% increase in passengers again. We are optimistic that our airline partners are going to have a great year!

Our Air Show dates have been announced. On August 20th & 21st we’ll be pleased to showcase some great acts!  The Canadian and American military have confirmed a CF-18 demo team, a F-16 and of course the Snowbirds!  Hope to see you there.  Check www.waterlooairshow.com for more details.

Thanks for connecting over the past year and we look forward to seeing you here at YKF. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask: http://www.FlyYKF.tumblr.com/ask. See answers to recent questions below.

Questions from www.FlyYKF.tumblr.com/ask

US flights anytime soon?

At this time, we don’t have anything new to announce, but we continue to talk to carriers about what they are missing. We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as anything new happens.

Do you have a service to Chicago?

Do any airplanes go to Moncton, New Brunswick from YKF?

Our current destinations include Calgary and Ottawa. We are in continuous discussions with many airlines and are progressively working towards new destinations.

YKF is very accommodating if you’re flying to Ottawa, Calgary, or Punta Cana.  Why can’t YKF attract more business?  It seems a lot of our tax dollars are being spent out there with no return as of yet.  Please comment.

The airport has been a major training facility for about 60 years. About 10 years ago, Regional Council decided to invest a significant amount of money to increase the utilization of the airport, as well as help create a place for business to grow and to support jobs and growth. This has begun to happen.  Business jet and commercial traffic have steadily increased since 2004. We continue to discuss possibilities with airlines and are making progress. We have only had commercial service for about 6 years. Airports such as Hamilton airport have had commercial service for over 40 years. We still have a lot of ground to cover but look forward to sharing our growth with you as the year continues.  In the meantime, check us out, come out for lunch, take a sightseeing flight or come and watch the 2011 Air Show.  You won’t be disappointed.

Where is Runway’s Café on the new website?

Runways is listed under Airport Community with a web link to their page on the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centres’ website for more information.

Our Passenger Services section is focused on services available inside the terminal building.
